Rocky Mountain House

Competition:    3rd Place

Location:    Boulder, Colorado

Project Data:    New Construction / 3,611 SF

This home design project aimed to create a sustainable and enduring residence for an executive couple. Inspired by Japanese and Spanish Colonial architecture, the owners sought an accessible home suitable for potential wheelchair use, despite the site's steep slope. Exterior materials were meticulously chosen to mitigate fire risk common in the mountain region, aligning with their vision of a home designed to endure for generations. The house gracefully follows a seasonal brook, descending from the garage to the bedrooms and culminating in the main living spaces. Each level is thoughtfully oriented around intimate courtyards that foster unique sheltered outdoor experiences, all interconnected by a three-story elevator for enhanced accessibility.
