​Project Data:  865 SF (2-Bedroom,  2-Bath, 1-Story on Concrete Slab with Storage Attic)

This traditional cottage provides a bright and open Great Room with vaulted ceilings and ample glazing on three sides. The indoor/outdoor fireplace with entry doors on either side extends the living space to the covered patio as well as providing a visual connection. Two bedroom suites are efficiently tucked in at the rear of the house with large windows allowing for an immersive nature view when first waking up. There is a generous storage/utility attic with an integrated ladder that keeps things easily accessible.  At 865 SF, it is right-sized for simple living, a vacation home, or an Airbnb. 

​This design promotes an environmentally sustainable and healthy structure and is affordable to maintain as the building ages. Some of the features are as follows:

• The super-insulated building shell uses traditional 2x6 framing with Huber Zip System® R-12 Insulated Panels for external insulation.
• The extra insulation combined with a smaller building size means that the house will use less energy to heat and cool.
• Durable, low-maintenance fiber cement and stucco for the exterior finishes reduce long-term maintenance costs and wildfire risk.
• The roof area has sufficient space for solar panels.
• Interior materials are specified to be low or no VOC to provide healthy indoor air quality.
