Chicago Narrow House
Competition: 1st Place – Unbuilt
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Project Data: 2,574 SF + Basement 1,333 SF
This project site is a typical Chicago lot of 25‘ x 125’. Since the site is very long and narrow, the house occupies the full width allowed by code with a rooftop entertainment deck and a small backyard. The first floor is organized around an open floor plan with daylight at both ends creating a spacious and convivial atmosphere. Large south facing windows located at the top of the stairwell wash down the feature wall bringing the maximum daylight possible deep into all interior rooms. The front brick veneer and ornamental details on the facade respond to the surrounding old brick houses which are common in this Chicago neighborhood.
