This compact and simple house has a bright and open Great Room. The ceiling slopes up to the high south glazing creating a dramatic connection to the outside. The garage roof slopes in the opposite direction to allow for the mounting of solar panels. An 8x10 garage door and oversized garage accommodate many larger vehicles. The breezeway between the house and the garage provides a sheltered entry as well as a covered outdoor dining area. At 926 SF, it is right-sized for sustainable living, a vacation home, or an Airbnb.

This design promotes an environmentally sustainable and healthy structure and is affordable to maintain as the building ages. Some of the features are as follows:

• The house living spaces are oriented around a southern exposure for optimum solar access and natural daylight all day long.
• The super-insulated building shell uses traditional 2x6 framing with Huber Zip System® R-12 Insulated Panels for external insulation.
• The extra insulation combined with a smaller building size means that the house will use less energy to heat and cool.
• Durable, shou sugi ban, cedar, and metal siding for the exterior finishes reduce long-term maintenance costs.
• Interior materials are specified to be low or no VOC to provide healthy indoor air quality.
